Pastoral Letter

Dear Church Family,
I am praying that your New Year, 2026, has started on a
positive note. I wanted to pause and recognise that at the
moment, the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in the SEC is a
Church at prayer. The Church’s annual Ten Days of Prayer,
this year entitled ‘Unleashed’, has been a great way to
start the year well. Individuals from across the SEC have
met online and have been very blessed, uplifted, and
empowered by the fantastic services featuring prayers,
testimonies, music, and messages organised by Sister Linda
Asare. I joined those gathered online on Wednesday night. It
was amazing to see so many devices represented on screen.
Behind each device, only our God knows just how many people
were there. If you have missed these nightly sessions
streamed via Zoom and YouTube, you can still catch up on
previous offerings via YouTube or watch live tonight.
The Church’s Ten Days season of prayer will conclude on the
Sabbath. Let’s continue to be a prayerful church. As we were
encouraged to do, if we do nothing else this year, let’s
keep moving forward by establishing as many family altars of
regular prayer as possible in the SEC, no matter how many
people are in our homes. You can also find prayer partners.
In doing so, we will put God and His Kingdom first (Matthew
6:33). I am convinced that all other aspects of our lives
will be blessed, and that we will be empowered by God’s
presence through faith in His promises (Matthew 28:18-20;
Luke 11:9-13) throughout 2026.
An empowered Church is essential if we want our churches to
be healthy ones. This is highlighted in the Natural Church
Development model and Various materials. The idea of
empowered Churches is also woven throughout the South
England Conferences Inspired for Mission Strategy,
for example, in the idea of “Christ in our hearts.” We know
that the Spirit of Christ is a “missionary Spirit” (Ellen
White, Testimonies for the Church, p.385), so we
cannot help but be empowered to spread the Good News of
salvation when Christ is in our hearts. Likewise, the Lord
Jesus Christ will empower us to live for Him in our homes,
churches, and streets, shining His light wherever we go. The
Strategy also references “impacting our community,” and with
Christ's empowerment, the potential for impact is limitless,
as it will resonate on both sides of eternity.
Some of us may wish the Holy Spirit could be leashed and
only want to be empowered or empower others in ways that
allow us to remain in control. One aspect of the theme of
the Ten Days of Prayer that has emphasised is that the Holy
Spirit and excessive control cannot co-exist. To be at
variance with the work of the Holy Spirit doesn’t bear
thinking about for us as a church or as individuals. I hope
we can be a church that encourages everyone to allow the
Holy Spirit space rather than attempt to leash the work of
members or church leadership. This is the only way the Lord
can complete His work in us and in this world.
The most impactful individuals did not impose limitations on
God or others. They see life and mission as a team
endeavour. Imagine if members of the godhead strove for
supremacy, or if Jesus lived only for Himself, ignoring His
Twelve Disciples. Acting, reacting, and doing things
ourselves come naturally, especially if we are used to
leaping into action. Often, quietness in a moment feels
uncomfortable. Yet moments of connecting with God, listening
to others, letting them speak, developing, sharing ideas,
experimenting, and taking part are greatly needed. Sometimes
God works in unexpected ways. You could ask a brother how
they'd like to work for God in 2026 and pray for them.
Besides actions like these, consider whether reading,
research, training, mentoring, coaching, or discipleship
could be useful strategies in the future. It may seem
counterintuitive, but sometimes leaving God room and giving
others space has the greatest impact. Perhaps these are
things to consider in 2026. Be Inspired for Mission!

SEC Evangelism Expo 2026: Training, Vision, and Impact

Leaders and members from across the South England Conference
of Seventh-day Adventists gathered at Newbold College for
SEC Evangelism Expo 2026, the Conference’s annual forum for
shaping mission, setting strategic direction, and equipping
local churches for the year ahead. Guided by the four-year
theme, Go SEC: Inspired for Mission, the Expo
provided an opportunity for church officers and members to
engage directly with Conference leadership, reflect on
shared priorities, and receive practical training for
evangelism and community outreach. This year, the programme
placed a clear and intentional emphasis on creating more
time for workshops, enabling participants to focus more
deeply on hands-on learning and ministry development.

Heaven Rejoices at Southall SDA Church: Ten Souls
Baptised in a Joyous Celebration
|
|
Ulanda Alexander
|
|
On 10 January 2026, ten individuals at
Southall Seventh-day Adventist Church publicly
declared their faith in Jesus Christ through baptism. This
meaningful event underscored their commitment to Christ and
reminded the entire congregation of the transforming power
of surrendering to Him.
The baptismal service was the heart of the celebration,
illustrating that each person is valued by God. Family,
friends, and church members gathered to witness these public
commitments and the miracle of changed lives through the
gospel.

The Sabbath morning on Saturday, 3 January 2026, was crisp,
cold, and inclement. With temperatures hovering around zero
degrees Celsius, it was clearly not a morning to be taken
lightly. Yet members of the London Ghana Seventh-day
Adventist (SDA) Church were undeterred, gathering in their
numbers to thank God for His grace, mercy, and protection
throughout the year.

The atmosphere at Clapton Community Seventh-day Adventist
Church on 27th December 2025 was filled with warmth,
reflection, and community connection as members and visitors
gathered for a special Sabbath centred on the theme: “There
Is No Place Like Home.” From early morning fellowship to
evening ministry for community mothers, the entire day
reflected God’s invitation to belong, to grow, and to return

On Sunday, 11 January 2026, ADRA-UK participated in the
South England Conference (SEC) Evangelism Expo—a significant
gathering of pastors, elders, and local church departmental
leaders from across the Conference. With more than 29,000
members worshipping in over 200 churches, the Expo provided
a meaningful space to reflect on how mission can be
expressed in practical, visible, and transformative ways.
