Pastoral Letter

Dear Church Family,
We are entering an interesting moment as we near the end of
2025, although we are not quite there yet. These times
between the significant dates in our calendars can feel a
bit slow or even dead if it seems not much is happening.
Recently, I came across some quotes on the impact of small
details that I found pretty interesting, and perhaps you
will too as we approach the final month of the year and
build up to the holiday season. One of them was this simple
thought: the importance of little things is that they "make
big things happen." (John Wooden).
This can be useful in several ways for us as God's people
living for Him from day to day: a people with a mission. It
can be impactful when we interact with young ones in our
families or church communities, with relatives, work
colleagues, church family, and people in the broader
community around us who need to see a witness and whom we
need to reach. There are various examples of how small
gestures at the right time have made a huge impact: a gift,
a greeting card, a bag of groceries, or your presence with a
non-judgmental listening ear.
There are several Bible stories in which the results of
victory for God hinged upon a small and otherwise
deceptively simple-looking factor. For example, one small
harp in the hand of David was used to produce heavenly
worship music from God that drove back the forces of
darkness (1 Samuel 16:23). It was a jawbone of a dead ass in
the hand of Samson through which God was able to move with
victory and power (Judges 15:16). It was a single miraculous
jar of oil from which the widow in 2 Kings 4:3-7 was able to
feed herself and her son who were in danger of dying of
hunger but instead a household was fed. Let's also ponder
how one single stone in the hand of David, the shepherd boy,
was enough to kill the giant Goliath (1 Samuel 17:49).
Small factors with a significant impact are also important,
following the South England Conference's Strategic Review
and the Big Conversation Town Hall we had with delegates
from the churches around the Conference. Similarly, in local
churches where newly appointed Officers are preparing for
posts and making plans for church ministry and mission for
2026, along with their Elders and Pastors, small details
matter. We can take bigger tasks and break these down into
mini steps, in other words, small, accomplishable functions
that will help build the confidence of everyone involved.
After all, as the other quote states, "success comes from a
series of small wins" (unknown).
This time of year is also a good moment to think about
completing those tasks and goals we need to have by the end
of the year, even the little ones. What do you have left to
do? At this time, we can identify what needs to be completed
by the end of 2025. That individual we said we would visit,
talk with, appreciate or pray for: maybe it's time to give
them a call. That task at church, which may be seemingly
insignificant but would make things run more smoothly or
make for a better environment, why not investigate it? Which
Church processes can we improve? Who is the person we have
overlooked who is underutilised and deserving of
opportunities? Let's ensure children and youth partake in
the planning process. And which other groups do we need to
engage more effectively, not for our own interests but so
they can be acknowledged and empowered?
You never know which detail could turn out to be the most
powerful, because it could tip the balance in favour of our
local Mission and God's will being accomplished in our local
districts. That's because something considered small to us
might turn out to be the most important thing to others, and
when taken together, all the small details of this world add
up to larger effects. This is to encourage us as we learn
from the past and move on, by God's grace, to essential
things being accomplished: may we see the reign of the
kingdom of darkness pushed back, may we see God moving with
power and victory as individuals are freed from its reign
and may our personal and outreach needs be supplied in
miraculous ways in 2026.
In Evangelism news, seven (7) persons are ready for baptism
at the Southall SDA Church. The Elders have done a fantastic
job. Croydon SDA Church will have a baptism of four (4)
individuals on the Sabbath. I have permitted Elder Bennett
to baptise those he has studied with. Let us pray for the
success of our Pathfinder rally day and the over 700 who
would graduate with various honours. Be Inspired for
Mission!

London Area 6: United in Exaltation & Prayer

Tottenham Lighthouse Church Prayer Ministry hosted the
London Area 6 programme, ‘United in Exaltation & Prayer‘ on
Sabbath, 22 November 2025. It was cold and rainy on the
outside, but inside the sanctuary, we experienced warmth and
blessings from the Lord. It was indeed a high day in Zion,
as the London Area 6 Churches fellowshipped and magnified
the name of the Lord together.
