Pastoral Letter
|
|
Dear Church Family,
I bring you greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ,
our Lord and Saviour. I also trust that you and your loved
ones are in good health. Today, my heart is heavy as we
continue to witness the devastation caused by the recent
hurricane Melissa on the Island of Jamaica and other Islands
of the Caribbean community. From the ground, chaos reigned
across Jamaica in the aftermath of
Hurricane Melissa
as residents emerged from the storm to find their
communities shattered, their homes lying in ruins along with
streets left awash in mud, debris, and dangling power lines.
One hospital staffer described having to dodge pieces of
flying glass and other debris as the storm blew out windows
and shook the facility. From the air, the picture of the
widespread devastation came into a sobering focus as
families lost their homes, possessions, and even loved
ones.
Video footage taken during Prime Minister Holness's
helicopter tour of the hard-hit areas showed communities
left in ruins. From the air, Holness witnessed entire
neighbourhoods devastated, with numerous homes missing roofs
and walls. The videos showed twisted metal, splinted wood,
and chunks of broken concrete strewn across the green
landscape for miles. Torrential downpours and forceful winds
unleashed widespread destruction along the storm's path in
Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, and the Bahamas. At least 30 people
have died, though the full toll of the catastrophic
hurricane may take days or weeks to be determined. The needs
before us are urgent and profound. As followers of Christ,
we are called to respond with compassion, generosity, and
steadfast hope.
The Apostle Paul reminds us in Galatians 6:2, "Carry each
other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of
Christ." In this time of crisis, we have the opportunity to
bear one another's burdens and demonstrate the love of
Christ in action. James 2:15-17 also teaches us: "Suppose a
brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If
one of you says to them, 'Go in peace; keep warm and well
fed,' but does nothing about their physical needs, what good
is it?" Our faith compels us to reach out and help those who
are suffering.
I appeal to each of you to give as you are able—whether
through financial gifts, donations of clothing or food, or
by volunteering your time. No act of kindness is too small.
United in faith, our collective efforts can bring hope and
tangible relief to those who are suffering. Let us remember
the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:40: "Truly I tell you,
whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and
sisters of mine, you did for me." In serving those affected
by this disaster, we are serving our Lord Himself.
May God bless you abundantly as you answer this call to love
and serve. If you would like to donate or volunteer, please
get in touch with the ADRA office at the BUC or the
Community Ministries Department at the SEC, or visit our
website for more information on how you can help.
In other news, congratulations to Pastor Louis Fajardo and
the leadership of the Hispanic Churches. In a just-concluded
evangelistic campaign, 20 precious souls were baptised. Let
us all continue to build up the Kingdom of God and be
INSPIRED FOR MISSION!

Dave Miller, a regular attendee of Hackney Seventh-day
Adventist Church, was seated in the congregation like a man
on a great mission. Behind him sat his overjoyed mother and
proud siblings.

“As we gather here today, our hearts are filled with so many
memories, laughter that was shared, songs that lifted our
spirits, prayers that strengthened our faith, and tears shed
in moments of trial and discomfort,” said Ethel Muzamhindo,
the Adventurer Leader, in her heartfelt farewell message.
This day was not only a farewell but also a time for
reflection, filled with mixed emotions of sadness,
excitement, and hope.
